Citizens in a War Zone, Ukraine! part three
February 24, 2022--At dawn Russian troops invaded my country, Ukraine. No warning! They fired missiles on several locations near the capital city Kyiv and in the north, east, and south of the country.
4:50 A.M. President Vladimir Putin announced that he was leading a military operation to protect people who had been enduring abuse and genocide.
“We are not going to impose anything on anyone by force. Whoever tries to interfere with us, and even more so, to create threats for our country, for our people, should know that Russia’s response will be immediate and will lead you to such consequences that you have never experienced in your history.”
February 27, 2022—“We have war coming at us from too many directions. Our soldiers are brave and they move incredibly fast in small attack groups. Weapons are coming to us from other countries, but too slowly. Help is needed NOW.
“This is war—maybe worse than World War II—I hear the sounds of the 1940’s.”
“We are greatly out-numbered. We need missile systems, especially Javelins and Stingers. Each one can be launched by one person. We can take out Russian tanks with Javelins.
“Germany is going to give us Stingers. Their missiles will reach helicopters or low-flying planes. The United States will get us humanitarian and lethal weapon supplies.”
“What about planes?”
“We need fighter jets, but our pilots do not have enough time to learn how to fly them. The NATO countries are opposed to our having them. They fear that we will have confrontation in the skies with the Russians and end up in World War III.”
“Russia has put its nuclear forces on high alert.”
“We are goners if they cause an explosion of one of our nuclear power facilities. However, we have strengths and goals. We are good fighters and fiercely loyal to our families and the country. Sophisticated weapons and control of our skies are essential.
“We do not assume we know the future, probabilities yes, but the future—No! Pray that we have the wisdom to prepare even for what we do not know.”
“My home Kharkiv, is a big city, and lately often under attack. Where do we go to be safe? I do not want to leave the country. I want to help here.
“Unknowns are daily. I am relieved if I know what day of the week it is. I am sure the Russians at their president’s order will destroy civilian or military targets. It does not bother President Putin of Russia to flatten our city, kill its people, and all we value.
“I am hopeful for our survival when I know that President Zelensky is still in Ukraine. He keeps contact with us and leaders of the Free World by any means possible.”
“The Americans offered to take him to a safe place. He told them, ‘The fight is here. I need ammunition, not a ride.’”
Next week we will have more coverage of the war and how it is affecting the world.
